Refunds, Cancellations & Workshop Transfers

Refunds are available for cancellations made at least 30 days before the scheduled workshop date. If you are no longer able to attend your booked workshop, your place may instead be transferred to a future workshop date, subject to availability and prior agreement.

Please contact Lyde Green Pottery as early as possible to arrange a cancellation or transfer.

Cancellation and transfer arrangements are subject to applicable statutory consumer rights.

Terms of service

1. Bookings and payment

All workshop bookings must be made through the Lyde Green Pottery website and paid for in advance. A booking is confirmed once payment has been received and confirmation issued. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants must ensure that they meet any experience, age or material requirements specified in the individual workshop description. By booking, participants confirm that the information they provide is accurate.

2. Workshop cancellations and changes

If Lyde Green Pottery needs to cancel a workshop, participants will be offered the choice of a full refund or transfer to an alternative date.

In exceptional circumstances, including adverse weather, equipment failure, kiln-related issues or circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we may need to postpone, modify or cancel a workshop. Where a workshop cannot proceed, appropriate refund or alternative arrangements will be offered.

3. Participant cancellations and transfers

If you are unable to attend a workshop, please contact us as soon as possible.

  • More than 30 days before the workshop: cancellation and refund, less any clearly disclosed and lawful non-refundable costs, where applicable.

  • 30–14 days before the workshop: transfers may be offered subject to availability.

  • Less than 14 days before the workshop: refunds or transfers are not normally available, although we may consider requests individually.

Participants may arrange for another suitable person to attend in their place, subject to prior agreement and any applicable safety or experience requirements.

Nothing in this section affects any statutory rights that may apply.

4. Nature of wood firing

Wood firing is an experimental and inherently unpredictable ceramic process. The interaction between flame, ash, atmosphere, temperature, clay and glaze produces unique results which cannot be precisely controlled or guaranteed.

Participants acknowledge that:

  • Ceramic work may crack, warp, blister, become discoloured or break during firing.

  • Glazes and surfaces may develop unexpected results.

  • Some work may not survive the firing process.

  • Results may differ significantly from expectations, previous firings or examples shown.

Lyde Green Pottery cannot guarantee the survival or particular aesthetic outcome of any ceramic work submitted for firing. This does not affect any rights participants may have where loss or damage results from a breach of our legal obligations.

5. Ceramic work and materials

Participants are responsible for ensuring that their work is appropriately prepared and suitable for the firing process.

Work must be made from clay bodies suitable for the stated firing temperature and must comply with any size, weight, glaze or preparation requirements provided before the workshop.

Lyde Green Pottery reserves the right to decline work that is considered unsuitable, unsafe or likely to compromise the kiln or other participants' work.

Participants should disclose any unusual materials, inclusions, glaze ingredients or construction methods before firing.

6. Health and safety

Wood firing involves high temperatures, flames, hot surfaces, heavy equipment, smoke and other inherent hazards.

All participants must:

  • Follow instructions given by workshop leaders.

  • Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy, closed-toe footwear.

  • Use protective equipment where instructed.

  • Remain within designated workshop and kiln areas.

  • Avoid touching hot equipment, kiln surfaces or ceramic work unless specifically instructed.

  • Inform the workshop leader of any safety concern immediately.

Participants must not attend or participate while under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or in any condition that makes participation unsafe.

Lyde Green Pottery reserves the right to suspend or remove a participant from an activity where their conduct presents a significant safety risk.

7. Personal belongings and ceramic work

Participants are responsible for their personal belongings and for transporting their ceramic work to and from the workshop.

Reasonable care will be taken in handling and storing work during the firing process. However, ceramic work is fragile and may be damaged or lost as an inherent consequence of firing.

Participants should collect their work within the collection period communicated after the workshop. Any alternative collection or delivery arrangements must be agreed in advance.

8. Weather and outdoor conditions

Wood firing may involve working outdoors and in changing weather conditions. Participants should dress appropriately for the season and the conditions described in the workshop information.

Where weather conditions create an unsafe working environment, Lyde Green Pottery may modify, postpone or cancel activities as appropriate.

9. Photography and promotional material

Participants are welcome to photograph their own work and the firing process where this does not interfere with workshop activities or safety.

Lyde Green Pottery may photograph workshops and finished work for documentation and promotional purposes. We will seek appropriate permission before using identifiable images of participants in promotional material.

10. Liability

Participants are expected to take reasonable care of themselves, others, equipment and the workshop environment.

Lyde Green Pottery will take reasonable care to provide appropriate instruction and maintain a safe working environment.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence, fraud, or any other liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

11. Accessibility and individual requirements

We welcome enquiries about accessibility, adjustments and individual requirements. Participants are encouraged to contact us before booking so that we can discuss arrangements and ensure the workshop is suitable.

12. Privacy

Personal information provided during booking will be used to administer reservations, communicate workshop information and fulfil relevant legal obligations.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. General provisions

These terms apply to all bookings for Lyde Green Pottery wood firing workshops unless otherwise stated in the individual workshop description.

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to applicable consumer rights.
